Ghatothkach
Ghatotkach is the son of Bhima and the giantess Hidimbi. His maternal parentage made him half-Rakshasa, and gave him magical powers that made him crucial to the Kurukshetra war.
In particular on the 14th day, when the battle continued on past sunset, his powers were at their most effective (at night). Unable to withstand his assault, Duryodhana appealed to Karna to kill Ghatotkach who was close to annihilating the whole Kaurava army. The only weapon capable of doing this, was Karna’s Indrastra, an unstoppable weapon he had been saving for his confrontation with Arjuna. With no recourse left, Karna used the weapon to kill Ghatotkach, but expended in the process the one hope that he had of besting Arjuna in their duel.
